Background and Theme

Numerous recent trends in enterprise, business, and societal applications reveal a magnificent opportunity for analytics . The maturation of database and systems technologies, together with the explosive growth of the Web, has resulted in a data deluge, with vast amounts of data being available. This data could be potentially analyzed to meet individual, government, industry, and societal needs and decisions. This requires developing intelligent and imaginative techniques for efficiently storing, accessing, and processing the data, and most importantly, analytics for inference, alerts, and decisions. Governments, global companies, and online service providers anticipate that their focus for the next several decades will concern analytics, and particularly in services from an enterprise perspective, for end users.

The central theme of the workshop is large-scale data analytics to enable intelligent services in the context of enterprise, business, and societal applications. Analytics includes machine learning, data mining, information retrieval and extraction, social network analysis, recommender systems, and operations research in business management. The intent is to learn about academia, industry, government, and societal needs, mutual interests, and evolve a meaningful collaborative R & D agenda to address the research issues and practical challenges. This workshop will bring together leading researchers from universities, R & D organizations, national and government labs in India and the United States, and major software analytic and service providers from India and the US. The workshop will lead to a proposal to the government, industry, and the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum with a futuristic collaborative action plan for this important area.
