The Game Theory Lab is an integral part of the Department of Computer Science and Automation, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Abiding by the philosophy of engineering research in IISc, it is committed to understand the underlying physics of the problems related to network economics and electronic commerce before coming up with a solution.
Situations where several self-interested agents are involved and conflict and co-operation being the flavor of the problems, e.g., advertising on internet search engines or procurement auctions, Game Theory is the most natural tool to apply. The research in the lab is motivated by the problems of these kind and the goal is to come up with Mechanism Design solutions to them.
The culture of research in the lab is exciting, as it addresses real-life problems. This is reflected in the Industry-Academic interactions of this Lab. Several organizations have funded research projects of this lab over the time. Examples include General Motors, IBM research, Infosys, Xerox etc. The research culture is also quite open, as collaboration with people of Indian and international academic and industrial institutions are encouraged.
